WHO ARE YOU?
WHAT DOES YOUR BUSINESS DO / WHAT DO YOU MAKE?
I am a ceramicist based in Folkestone Kent. I make functional wheel thrown ceramics in both stoneware and earthenware.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THIS AMAZING JOB?
Working with clay since Mach 2018
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BEGIN THIS JOURNEY?
I found that Clayspace located in Margate, Kent was so inspirational and supportive in getting me started as I could just drop in and have a go at a very small fee and have guidance and direction to help me learn the process. It is also is a fantastic place to meet other people interested in pottery and working with clay helping you network.
WHAT WERE YOU DOING IN YOUR PREVIOUS LIFE ... JOB?
I was a dog trainer
WHAT ARE YOUR BUSINESS VALUES?
In a throwaway world I love how once I have fired a pot it will last hundreds of years and can be reused as many times as needed. I want to help look after this beautiful earth we have been given and feel that making something sustainable and reusable is so important in doing that. I also want to make something that is timeless in style, simple and clean that can stand the test of time.
WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?
Having a Spotify playlist or a podcast on I can just work all day and lose myself. I even forget to have lunch sometimes!
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Nature, walking my dog, travelling and doodling different shapes and ideas to see what stands out. I also always make sure there is an experiment in every firing so I am always excited opening the kiln.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?
I enjoy working with my hands and having a creative outlet. I love how the process of creating a pot includes all the different elements...air, water earth and fire. I also love how organic and unexpected the process is and it helps me let go and relax and remember that I can’t control everything.
WHERE ARE YOU BASED - WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU?
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE FOR CLÆ ?
To carry on and keep honing my skills. There is so much to learn about this craft I know I will never stop learning and developing as a designer and artist.
