MEET THE MAKER: CORINNE TAYLOR

MEET THE MAKER: CORINNE TAYLOR

TELL US, WHO ARE YOU?

Hello, my name is Corinne and I am the owner and managing director of Corinne Taylor Aromatherapy Products.

WHAT DOES YOUR BUSINESS DO / WHAT DO YOU MAKE?

Along with my partner Dan and a small team, we hand-make all natural, vegan friendly & cruelty free wellbeing products for bath, body and home.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THIS AMAZING JOB?

We have been going for over 5 years now! The business started when I was working full time as a holistic therapist. Dan and I had a lightbulb moment and decided to start a weekend market stall, with 100% natural wellbeing products to compliment my treatments.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BEGIN THIS JOURNEY?

After training to become an aromatherapist and working in my first therapist role, I was amazed to learn first hand the benefits of essential oils by using them with my clients through massage. I then began to experiment by making products containing essential oils to compliment my treatments, such as bath salts to de stress or boost energy. Soon friends and family wanted to buy from us and we started selling at a market stall at weekends. Dan used his graphic design skills to create all of the labels and banners, whilst I worked on the product blends. After a few months we launched an Etsy store then around a year later our website. Now five years on we have expanded into wholesale supplying over 50 retailers in the UK as well as stores in Europe and Japan.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING IN YOUR PREVIOUS LIFE ... JOB?

I worked full time as a holistic therapist practising treatments such as aromatherapy, reflexology, deep tissue massage and reiki. Previously I studied art and textiles at university and have always been very creative, so starting the products business has allowed me to combine that creativity with my passion for holistic living and aromatherapy.

WHAT ARE YOUR BUSINESS VALUES?

Our ethos is to keep our products as close to nature as possible, therefor we only use 100% natural ingredients, never any sls, parabens, synthetic colours or fragrance. Our full range is also palm oil free, vegan friendly - registered with The Vegan Society, and certified cruelty free with the Leaping Bunny. We use recyclable and eco friendly packaging wherever possible and are constantly looking for new ways to introduce more eco friendly working practices.

WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?

Seeing so many unnatural and unethical products on the market motivates me to get our range out there and to spread the word about green, clean beauty / home fragrance. Also, seeing stress and anxiety levels at an all time high motivates me to educate people about self care and wellness.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I am inspired by nature, as well as natural ingredients and holistic therapies. I am always inspired by the many creative and awesome female bosses out there making incredible things happen in the world as well as new innovations in ethical and sustainable products and practices.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?

I love that I am doing something different everyday, and that our business is always evolving. There is never a dull moment, and although it can be challenging at times, running a business has allowed me to grow in so many ways and is incredibly exciting.

WHERE ARE YOU BASED - WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU?

We are based in Brighton, UK but you can find us in a number of independent stockists around the UK, including Planet Organic and Oliver Bonas, Europe and Japan. You can get our full range from www.corinnetaylor.co.uk.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE FOR YOU ?

We are currently working on some new skincare and wellness products to add to our range this year which is very exciting, as well as also expanding our distribution to a few new European countries.

THE BENEFITS OF FACIAL TREATMENT

THE BENEFITS OF FACIAL TREATMENT

Though facials are commonly thought of as a form of pampering, the skin treatment is not simply a luxury. The many benefits that facials have on your skin make it a treatment worth investing in, whether you have your treatment done at a spa or do it yourself at home. A facial involves several steps that will improve the overall look and feel of your complexion.

Deep Cleansing.
A better, deeper cleanse than the one you do at home – will help your skin get rid of oil buildup, toxins and dirt from your everyday environment, thoroughly removing all the bacteria that could cause skin issues. A good exfoliation will remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin and unclog your pores, allowing the absorption of other products. This will also make your skin look and feel softer and smoother, making your makeup blend easier and look better.
Anti-Aging.
Facial treatments can help slow down the aging process and prevent the appearance of wrinkles. Massaging your face with an anti-aging cream will immediately increase the blood circulation and oxygen flow, which promotes collagen production and enhances the elasticity of your skin. This leads to a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles and preventing their appearance. Remember: It’s never too early to take good care of your skin!
Relaxing!
Messages are so good for relaxing, relieving stress and balancing your mind. Just like your body, your face muscles need a massage and most facial treatments include one. The boost in circulation you’ll get will stimulate the lymphatic vessels and detoxify your skin, making it look healthy and youthful. The nice smell of face masks is only another incredible addition to a soothing, relaxing experience.
Rejuvinating!
The exfoliation, massage, steam and mask application during a facial treatment lead to skin rejuvenation, or in other words – a fresh, renewed skin. This improves the appearance of the skin, giving it a healthy, radiant glow and balanced complexion. You might not see the results instantly, but on the long run, your skin is going to get restored! So keep in mind that being regular and consistent with your facials is a key.
Treat Yourself!
Having a little time for pampering yourself in a peaceful environment will definitely uplift your spirit and clear your mind. So once in a month, take some time off and treat yourself!
words by Agne Kleinauskaite facial therapist & founder of Ginger Fox Natural Beauty.

GOODBYE WINTER

GOODBYE WINTER
I can smell spring in the air. I can see it in the earth and I can feel it in the wind.

Seeds becoming seedlings and buds forming on branches.

Winter is making her bed, she is slowly drifting to sleep.

This sign from nature tells us to start moving again, energy is ascending, our yang is building.

I feel sadness, I am grieving.
I made good friends with winter this year. Her energy pulled me down deep into my being.
I felt naked, alone, peace.

Winter nourished me from deep within, sewing the seeds for everything else to come this year.

I thank winter and the blanket she wrapped me in so tightly.

She'll be gone until next year,

but her energy is deep within me.

WHAT DOES YOUR BUSINESS DO / WHAT DO YOU MAKE?

Josie Swift
I am a ceramicist based in Folkestone Kent. I make functional wheel thrown ceramics in  both stoneware and earthenware.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THIS AMAZING JOB?
Working with clay since Mach 2018

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BEGIN THIS JOURNEY?
I found that Clayspace located in Margate, Kent was so inspirational and supportive in getting me started as I could just drop in and have a go at a very small fee and have guidance and direction to help me learn the process. It is also is a fantastic place to meet other people interested in pottery and working with clay helping you network.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING IN YOUR PREVIOUS LIFE ... JOB?
I was a dog trainer

WHAT ARE YOUR BUSINESS VALUES?
In a throwaway world I love how once I have fired a pot it will last hundreds of years and can be reused as many times as needed.  I want to help look after this beautiful earth we have been given and feel that making something sustainable and reusable is so important in doing that. I also want to make something that is timeless in style, simple and clean that can stand the test of time.

WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?
Having a Spotify playlist or a podcast on I can just work all day and lose myself. I even forget to have lunch sometimes!

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Nature, walking my dog, travelling and doodling different shapes and ideas to see what stands out. I also always make sure there is an experiment in every firing so I am always excited opening the kiln.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?
I enjoy working with my hands and having a creative outlet. I love how the process of creating a pot includes all the different elements...air, water earth and fire. I also love how organic and unexpected the process is and it helps me let go and relax and remember that I can’t control everything.
